Good combat is about timing and discipline. Learn when to engage, when to reset, and how to turn a safe punish into consistent progress.
Combat fundamentals
Most fights are decided before the biggest attack lands. Positioning, cooldown discipline, and recovery timing decide whether your damage can be used safely.
A strong player does not press every option as soon as it is ready. They hold tools for the moment when the enemy has committed and cannot punish back cleanly.
Spacing rules
- Stay close enough to punish but far enough to reset.
- Do not chase through bad terrain if your escape tool is unavailable.
- Use ranged pressure to create decisions, not to stand still.
- Treat corners and walls as danger zones unless your build benefits from them.
- Reposition after a successful hit instead of overextending automatically.
Punish windows
A punish window opens when the enemy has missed, committed, recovered slowly, or spent a key tool. Your safest damage comes after those moments.
If you keep getting hit after attacking, the problem may not be your build. It may be that you are attacking before the window is real.
Cooldown discipline
- Always know which tool gets you out of danger.
- Avoid spending every mobility option during your opener.
- Hold one defensive response when learning a new boss or matchup.
- Use high-impact skills when the target is committed, not when they are ready to dodge.
- Reset after a bad trade instead of trying to win the entire fight immediately.
Build-specific combat
Beginner and PvE builds should focus on consistency. PvP builds need pressure and reset tools. Boss builds should value safe punish windows over risky burst.
A build that looks weak on paper can feel strong if it creates reliable windows. A build that looks strong can fail if every option is punishable.
Practice routine
- Practice one opener until you know its range and recovery.
- Practice one escape until it becomes automatic.
- Fight easier targets without using rare resources.
- Review why you lost: spacing, cooldowns, greed, or route mismatch.
- Change one build piece at a time so you know what improved.
